Freshman Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane has been seeing a fantasy football sensation, but that may have to be paused.

The 2023 third-round draft pick was moved to the locker room with a shoulder injury in the third quarter of the Dolphins’ preseason game against the Houston Texans on Saturday. Achan has been shown to leave the field to the chariot under his authority, but with evident pain.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel confirmed to reporters After the game it was a shoulder injury and that the team will learn more on Saturday.

The injury appeared when Ashan fell hard on his shoulder at the end of a 20-yard run in the second quarter, a play that also displayed the kind of speed that had a lot going for him in the future:

Achan stayed in the game after that play, though, running the ball five more times before needing to cart. He had six rushes for 27 yards at the time of his exit.

The injury adds more intrigue to the packed room of the Dolphins running back, which also includes Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Miles Gaskin, Chris Brooks and Salvon Ahmed. Mostert and Wilson finished first and second on the Dolphins in the rushing rush last season while Gaskin was a former starter who missed much of last year due to injury, but the Dolphins made Akan clear when they drafted him at 84.

It made Achane’s speed (running 4.32 seconds 40-yard dash at the 2023 NFL Combine) and All-SEC production at Texas A&M (1,102 rushing yards, eight touchdowns and 5.6 yards per carry in his junior year). dolphins. He’s undersized as a running back at 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, but Training Camp reports It was very encouraging.
