Detroit Lions sophomore wide wide Jameson Williams will likely miss the rest of the preseason due to a hamstring injury he suffered in practice on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Lions coach Dan Campbell confirmed later “There’s a good chance” Williams’ injury will continue throughout the pre-season. He also joked that he didn’t expect Williams to be in the first six games of the regular season either, though that stemmed from a six-game suspension Williams received after the NFL found he and others engaged in sports betting. Williams reportedly bet on college games at the team’s facilities, which is contrary to the league’s sports betting policy.

williams He reportedly stopped limping in a deep workout on Wednesday and catch the right hamstring. He missed some practices earlier this summer due to an ailment in his left hamstring.

It’s another setback for Williams, who was drafted by the Lions 12th overall in 2022. He missed the first 11 games last season while recovering from an ACL injury he sustained in college. Williams played 78 snaps in six games in 2022 and only caught one night score – a 41-yard touchdown in a Week 17 win over the NFC North rival Chicago Bears. Williams caught two passes for 18 yards on 51 offensive snaps on his first preseason drive against the New York Giants last week.

The first game Williams will be eligible to play in 2023 — if healthy — is Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens. For now, he will have to sit back, watch, and recover from his injury.
