The first 6 members of the American team completed after Victor Hovland won the BMW Championship

The American Ryder Cup team is halfway there.

The first of six automatic qualifiers for the U.S. team in next month’s Ryder Cup was officially decided Sunday after Victor Hovland’s victory in the BMW Championship.

Scotty Scheffler and Windham Clark have already secured spots on the team ahead of this week’s FedExCup Playoffs. Brian Harman, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa and Xander Schauffele took the last four automatic qualifying spots.

Homa entered the week sixth in the standings, although his T5 finish at Olympia Fields Country Club pushed him up the top spot. Schauffele started the week in 7th place, jumping up after his T8 finish.

Most notable, however, was Brooks Koepka’s exit from the world rankings. Koepka has been in the mix all year after finishing runner-up at the Masters and winning the PGA Championship. But as a member of LIV Golf, Koepka was only eligible to earn Ryder Cup points in major tournaments. He’s been on a slow decline for weeks now, and his T64 finish at the British Open hasn’t helped anything. Kupka is now seventh in the Ryder Cup standings.

USA captain Zack Johnson will now select his six captain selections to complete the 12-man squad. These six players will be announced on August 29.

The European team qualification period runs until September 3. Hovland, John Rahm and Rory McIlroy have already secured their spots in the squad. Europe captain Luke Donald would then make his six selections for his captaincy shortly after.

The Ryder Cup is scheduled to start on September 29 at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome.
